What's in a Name - Why Serenity?

Two years ago, my daughter Cat and I considered hundreds of names for our dream barn. Some of the rejects included Smokin’ Saddlebreds and Blazing Saddles! (I guess you’re glad that we didn’t pick one of those.) I favored names starting with “S”, because to me, a Saddlebred’s head and front leg look like the curves of an “S”. With Kim Cogar’s artistic help, we got our logo horse to have very much that shape; head high, nose tucked, with plenty of spirit and attitude. But back to the name; we landed on Serenity, not because we wanted sleepy, serene horses, rather we preferred horses with spirit. What we did want was our riders to be serene; to be calm, cool and composed. This kind of rider is in control of their ride and of their horse. This kind of rider is a safe rider. They won’t get hurt and will perform and get their mount to perform at their very best. This is what Serenity is all about; whether you just want to be safe and secure in the saddle and just have a good time, or whether you want to win every championship. And, oh yeah, it’s also a serene place – a fun family environment; where everyone should feel at peace. These days, with all that is going on in the world and the economy, we all need an escape. Horses and a farm can be the perfect escape. We all need a little Serenity.

Find Serenity in Spring Hill

Serenity can be hard to find in these days of economic turmoil; but not for those customers of Serenity Stables in Spring Hill. Our current economic times have created opportunities and challenges for many. Among those challenged has been Allen Bornscheuer. Allen was a successful bank software sales Vice President who was laid off in October due to the financial crisis. He, like many others, have had to rethink their career and long term strategies. Using the economy to his benefit, last summer, Allen fulfilled a lifelong dream by buying a horse farm out of foreclosure. Originally intending to run the horse business as a part time venture, Allen had to rethink his plans when the crisis hit home. His six figure income now gone, Allen has had to focus all of his attention and energies on making his part time dream a full time reality. Starting any new business in this environment is not easy. Starting a business which can be thought of as a luxury can be even harder. Allen believes that his love of horses, his business skills from the software industry and his faith will ultimately deliver success. Allen shares his life long passion for horses with his 14 year old daughter – Cat. Both of them can be found regularly living their dream - working at the farm. For them, and now their customers, serenity can be found riding, mucking stalls and watching the horses and goat gently graze.
